Will Hilbert’s mansion ever sell?
July 14, 2010
After five years on the market, first offered at a whopping $20 million, the former (Stephen) Hilbert mansion is going to the auction block. It has more than 55,000-square-feet in all, including the main house and four buildings, including a full-size basketball court, which was called the “Sports Barn. ” It has replica floors of IU’s Assembly Hall. Of course, there are locker rooms, and an entertainment area that runs the full length of the court, complete with a bar (BYOB) and grand fireplace. There are several murals throughout the house, including an undersea mural of a scantily clad mermaid in one of the bathrooms.
Tomisue Hilbert had a closet the size of some house, with marble countertops. There’s a 50-meter lap pool, too, that’s just off the master suite. The house has 13 fireplaces in the house. . And while you can’t see much of the mansion from 116th Street, just know that beyond the iron gates, that long driveway is heated.
